The St. James church served it's parishioners from 1821 through 1971 when the area adjacent to St. James was rapidly becoming highly commercialized due to the development of the Southern Park Mall. The congregation built a new church, and this building was to be demolished.

The Boardman Historical Society campaigned to save the church, and in 1972 their dedication and hard work paid off. The church was relocated to Boardman Park, and was remodeled. It is now a popular site for weddings, baptisms, concerts and meetings.
