The Alexander Cochran Mansion at 7 Westmoreland Place was built in 1890. The Richardsonian Romanesque style mansion was designed by architect James Stewart for Alexander Cochran. Prior to Alexander Cochran moving to St. Louis, he had served in the 44th U.S. Congress as a Representative from Pennsylvania. After his arrival in St. Louis he continued his practice as an attorney. He became the general solicitor for the Missouri Pacific Railway Company.
