The Edwards Whitaker mansion at 13 Westmoreland Place was built in 1903. The Neo-Classical styled mansion was designed by architect James P. Jamieson. The mansion was built for Edwards Whitaker who was the president of Boatman's Bank, the oldest and largest bank in St. Louis at the time. He was involved stocks and bonds as an early associate in the company which would become A.G. Edwards brokerage company which was founded by General A.G. Edwards, who Whitaker had worked with after serving in the Civil War. Later in his life he also became involved in the railroad industry.
