Harold Haggart was a local astronomy buff and one-time telescope builder. He originally constructed this telescope and dome on his own property in 1948. After his death in 1984 his widow arranged for a permanent home for the telescope, dome and drive mechanism. A fund drive and donated services enabled construction of the current observatory in 1989. In 1999 some of the structural timber was found to be rotted, so the entire structure was rebuilt and reopened two years later.
The observatory is open whenever there is a clear night and a volunteer available. The instruments include a 24" Newtonian reflector, a 13" Dobsonian reflector, a 6" refractor, and 11X80 binoculars.
