CBEC, (Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center) is located on the Chesapeake Bay, the nations largest estuary. CBEC is an area of over 500 acres with fresh water, brackish tidal & salt water marshes that act as transition zones between the upland areas & the waters edge.
CBEC is a safe haven for over 200 species of birds as well as a multitude of other wildlife including many of the 19 species of turtles found in Md.
Though the turtle can be found throughout the reserve there are some places that takes them into harms way. For their safety there is a sign posted to help in their safe journey from one part of the area to another.
Some of the turtles frequently found in this area are the Diamond Back Terrapin, Snapping turtle, Box turtle, Painted turtle, Wood & Spotted turtles.
