This nature center is named in honor of Lucy Evans, who spent decades learning every inch of the bayland marshes, leading field trips, and advocating for their protection from drainage and commercial development. The nature center building includes a small theater, classroom space, and exhibits about the marsh ecosystem with an emphasis on shorebirds. The highlight is the quarter-mile boardwalk from the center's back porch across the marsh to a vantage point near the open bay. This provides a secure basis for visitors of all ages and abilities to view the marsh and birds up close.
The boardwalk is accessible without entering the nature center building. The center itself is open Tue/Wed 10 AM – 5 PM; Thur/Fri 2 PM – 5 PM.; and Sat/ Sun 1 PM – 5:00 PM.
