The shrine area has a waterfall and next to an outdoor altar with benches in a natural amphitheatre. Very, very beautiful. You have to cross a stone arch bridge to reach the altar.
In geologic terms, it is called the "Schnurbusch Karst Window".
The church is very nice too, with a cemetery in the front of the church. Usually church cemeteries are in the side or rear but this one is in the front, only a few feet from the front door.
The village of Apple Creek consists of a few homes and the church property.
Although this is really off the beaten track, I highly, highly recommend this trip if you are interested in church history or interesting natural areas.
