This rail line opened in 1875 to carry picnickers and beachgoers through the redwood forest to Santa Cruz. One 1875 tunnel is still in use today, although the truss bridge over the San Lorenzo River only dates back to 1909. Trains run daily in summer, weekends in fall and spring. The train is not just an out-and-back excursion; passengers alight at the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and can spend the day there (before returning to Roaring Camp). The 1900's depot is gone; this one is not an accurate replica but is a cheery interpretation of the old-fashioned village type.
