The first time capsule was sealed on the first day of operation of the Amarillo airport in September 1954. It remained sealed for 25 years. In was opened in 1979. In 1980 it was sealed again with 1980 items included. In 2005 it was opened and inspected. It was sealed again with original contents and new items in January 2006. The next opening date is 2031.
The time capsule is inside the terminal near the Continental counter. The GPS coordinates are from the nearest window.
