Corps of Discovery II – Locust Grove is located on the grounds of the Locust Grove National Historical Landmark in St. Matthews (Louisville), Jefferson County, KY. It is in the NGS database at PID = DH2912: (visit link) . The disk is in the centerline of a ten-foot wide concrete sidewalk that leads from the parking lot to the Visitors’ Center. The 4-inch disk is 23 feet west of the bottom of the Visitors’ Center steps, three feet east of the west end of the sidewalk, and 44 feet east of a flagpole. (The NGS datasheet states that the disk is west of the flagpole, but it is actually east of it). The disk does not have any identifying stamping other than the standard design elements of the commemorative series of disks: CORPS OF DISCOVERY II – 200 YEARS TO THE FUTURE – PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP. The disk was set by the Kentucky Association of Professional Surveyors. To reach from the intersection of the Watterson Expressway (Interstate 264) and Brownsboro Road (US Highway 42) on the northeast outskirts of Louisville, travel west on Brownsboro Road for about 0.5 miles to Blankenbaker Lane. Turn right and travel north on Blankenbaker Lane for about 1.5 miles to the historic site. Turn right (north) into the parking lot and proceed to the second lot, in front of the visitor’s center.

Locust Grove was the home of William Croghan and Lucy Clark Croghan, sister of William Clark and George Rogers Clark. It is located a few miles east northeast of downtown Louisville. According to a historical marker near the site, Lewis and Clark celebrated here upon their return from their expedition up the Missouri River.
