One of America's newest War memorials, dedicated July 3, 2008. The memorial consists of a semicircle of five etched granite columns, a centered shorter granite pedestal topped by a bronze American flag and stonework that outlines a star and plaques of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine emblems. The front column is inscribed with a dedication and 4 of the 5 remaining columns are engraved with the names of Sonoma County residents who lost their lives in seven wars ranging from the Philippines-American War in 1899 to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sadly the remaining column is likely intended for future wars. Inscription reads:

"THIS MONUMENT IS TO HONOR AND THANK THE SONOMA COUNTY MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED IN OUR ARMED FORCES AND IS DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN BATTLE"

The memorial includes the name of Sonoma county's latest casualty, Santa Rosa-born Ryan Connolly. Connolly, an Army paratrooper, was killed by a bomb blast in Afghanistan on June 24, 2008.

Requiescat In Pace - For as long as your names are remembered so too are you. Thank you for serving for us and your country.
