A plain little sign located on 67th Street just west of San Pablo Avenue. Emeryville is a small city wedged between Oakland to the south and east and Berkeley to the north. To the west is the San Francisco Bay.
In years past, the city was known for having a wild-west quality compared to the neighboring, counter-culture Berkeley and urban Oakland. A sizable chunk of city revenue came from legalized card rooms (gambling). In the past couple of decades, however, the city has courted high-tech and commercial development. It's now home to companies such as Pixar (Cars, Toy Story, etc.) and retailers such as Home Depot and Ikea. Residential growth has expanded, too, with modern condo and lofts.
