This monument was dedicated on July 4, 1930 during the Sesquicentennial Celebration for Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee.

Thousands attended the festivities which featured the unveiling of a memorial fountain in front of the courthouse and the Boone Monument on the east side of the courthouse.
