Timothy Olmsted was just sixteen when he became involved in the Revolutionary War. He marched to Boston with the East Hartford Company at the Battle of Lexington in 1775.

Timothy Olmsted was decended from an old New England Family and was born in Pheonix, New York on November 12, 1759. He was just 16 years old when he joined the East Hartford Company in their march to Boston during the Lexington Alarm in 1775. He served as a musician during the Revolutionary War in both the Seventh and Ninth Connecticut Regiments. He was also present at the Battle of White Plains.
On May 2nd 1783, he married Alice Olmsted, his second cousin and together they had thirteen children. He moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1785 and then later moved to Whitestown, New York. Alice died on February 5th, 1811 while in Rome, New York. Timothy also served for a short time in the War of 1812 under Captain Erastus Strong in the first regiment of the Connecticut Militia.
Timothy was also known for his uplifting Psalms and Hymns and even had a book published with many of these original songs included.He passed away on August 15, 1848 and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Pheonix, New York.
