It is located at the Thunder overlook, milepost 390.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of the US321 entrance between Blowing Rock and Boone. (This location is about 10 minutes drive from Tweetsie Railroad.)

The disk is on the north side of the Parkway. It is 79.7 feet, magnetic bearing 260 degrees, from station THUNDER (FZ2041), which is in poor condition.

The disk is 17.9 feet southeast of a fence post with an alum ref tag, and 17.6 feet southwest of a post with a ref tag. (The tags are visible from the parking lot.) The disk is mounted in a rock and is flush with the ground.
