Important dates in Duluths history.
1821 Evan Howell first settles area
1833 Area christened Howells Cross Roads.
1871 Railroad comes to town; first post office established.
1872 Town’s names changes to Duluth, after its sister city Duluth, Minnesota.
1876 Town receives charter, the fourth oldest chartered city in Gwinnett County.
1906 City of Duluth officially incorporates.
1922 Duluth elects Georgia’s first woman mayor, Mrs. Alice Strickland.
1943 Duluth built the first hospital in Gwinnett County
