The street next to this historical site is named after the original occupants, Deacon's Alley. The house itself is a confusing mish mosh of duplex confusion. It looks as though someone got a chain saw and separated the house and then laid down a mandate for both occupants: Decorate, paint and do whatever you want to the outside of your home so long as it is completely opposite of the other half. Yuck! it looks ridiculous. It is shame this once beautiful home has been reduced to financial practicality.
Located at 20-22 East 2nd Street in downtown Moorestown, this is one of 351 contributing buildings/structures to this historic district.
The Department of the Interior sent me the following narrative/information on this house:
"c.1860. 2 1/2-story, 2-register vernacular double houses with glazed and paneled doors. #20 aluminum sided; #22 asphalt shingle. 1/1 double hung sash in #20, 6/6 double hung in #22. gabled dormers, #22 with Gothic sash. 1-story wooden porch on posts. - Contributing.”
