Legend has it that this is the site where the original 12 U.C. Regents met to dedicate the site of the U.C. Berkeley campus in 1866. Frederick Billings apparently also stood here in 1866 when he remembered the poem by Bishop Berkeley that inspired the naming of the campus and town. The pictured dedication plaque was installed in 1896.
Also a pleasant shady nook to sit and rest--at least on non-game days.
