This land was donated by Mrs. Anna S. Simmons in memory of her husband, Mr. Leon F. Simmons. Although this memorial is dedicated as a lasting tribute to the men and women of Lawnside who served their country in time of war, I do not know how lasting or permanent it actually is. If you look closely at the pictures, it appears it was "uprooted" at one time and moved to this present location.

Numerous people served but only one person died from Lawnside during the first world war, and his death was an accidental drowning in France.
