Alex Haley was the award winning author of "Roots: The Saga of an American Family" and "Malcom X". He lived in east Tennessee the first five years of his life and intended to live here before he died. This statue is facing the Smokey Mountains and is interactive as it is situated near a playground. He was born 8/11/1921 and died 2/10/1992. His ground breaking book made people realize that the history of African Americans was not completely lost to history.
