Pennington parish is just over 3 and a half miles from the town of Ulverston, and consists of an area 3 1/2 X 1 1/2 miles, and is recorded in the Domesday book.
The present church here was rebuilt on the ancient site in 1826.
Outside of the church walls can be found the village stocks, last used in 1837 when an act of Parliament put an end to such punishment, assuming someone in authority told the villagers.
During the reconstruction of the church in 1826,a stone was uncovered which is attributed to the Bronze age and connected with Pagan worship, the inscription on it is thought to show that it originally belonged to Gamel de Pennington, who was the donor of the church during the time of Henry11 1159-1189.
The stone is the only one of it's kind in the country, and today has been re located in the West wall of the Font.
Date the Church was built, dedicated or cornerstone laid: 01/01/1826
