" The butter-colored Best House sits at the corner of Clarke Street and West Estudillo Avenue, near the historic Casa Peralta and recently constructed San Leandro Museum.
It was built in 1870 by Daniel DeMonte, anearly town leader, and was purchased in 1886 by Daniel Best. Best, who founded the Best Tractor Company -- now known as Caterpillar Tractor Co. -- raised his family there.
According to city planner Elmer Penaranda, from 1986 to 1996 the Best House was used as a bed-and-breakfast."
