West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, Georgia is the final resting place of some of the area’s most prominent citizens. Within the cemetery is a small section, which is the final resting place of 421 unknown Confederate Soldiers who died while fighting in Tennessee and Chickamauga. Many of the soldiers buried here died in hospitals in the Dalton area. Along with the unknown soldiers buried here, there are four known Confederate Soldiers and four unknown Union Soldiers resting here. A Confederate Memorial stands within the small Confederate Section as a tribute to the veterans who fought at Dalton, Rocky Face, Chickamauga and Resaca.
The memorial inscription reads:
"Erected by the Ladies Memorial Association of Whitfield County, to the memory of our Confederate Dead. 1892"
