The building at 53 West Main Street (Art's Grocery) was originally occupied by the U.S. Post Office. Its exterior features recall its initial use as a civic building: the broad, pediment and full entablature supported by tall stone pilasters are features commonly associated with early twentieth century public buildings as opposed to commercial retail establishments. (The storefront and ground floor have been substantially altered in various stages during the mid-twentieth century to accomodate a small, retail grocery store).
