This raked brick, U-shaped Usonian was built on diamond module, a Wright favorite at this point in his career-- easier to draw and more constructible than the nearby and earlier hexagonal Hanna and Bazett houses.

The Mathews house consists of two parallel wings connected at 60/120 degrees by a central workspace and dining area. The living wing and dining area frame a spacious terrace with a wall of windows.

Very little is known about the Mathews family. Other than a full-compliment of Philippine mahogany built-ins, none of the Wright designed furniture was ever built for the house.

The house is located in what would be a gated community if built today, where upscale ranch houses are being razed in favor of McMansions. The house continues to be a private residence, but is visible from the street.
