Coit tower was built in 1933 for the city of San Francisco by Lillie Hitchcock Coit. It stands atop Telegraph Hill and offers expansive views of San Francisco, including Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Angel Island, Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge, Russian Hill, the Financial District, Lombard Street, and Nob Hill.

The 210 foot art deco style tower was designed by architects Arthur Brown, Jr. and Henry Howard and is constructed from reinforced concrete. Inside the spiral stairwells, the halls, and at the top of of the tower rotunda are numerous murals, most of which have been restored and can be seen for no charge when the tower is open.

The following links are to photos of the WPA era murals which I found on Flickr.com: photo, photo, photo, photo, photo.
