A polished California granite wall, sandblasted with 2500 photographic images from the Korean War, reflects 19 stainless steel statues of Korean War soldiers sculpted by Frank Gaylord in a moving tribute to lives lost.

Set on 2.2 acres of the National Mall, the Korean War Memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995. The statues of soldiers represent fifteen Army soldiers, two Marines, a Navy medic and an Air Force Observer. The contributions of the other twenty-two nations that participated to the first United Nations peace-keeping effort are carved into a wall surrounding the Pool of Remembrance.
