We hiked to this trail marker from Hawksbill Mountain. We chose the most direct trail to Hawksbill Summit which is the Upper Hawksbill Trail. Parking for the trailhead is at mile 45.6. From the trailhead the summit is a 1.7 mile hike. The summit has great views and is the highest point in Shenandoah National park at 4050 feet. From the summit we backtracked a short way and took the Salamander Trail downhill for about one mile. The Salamander Trail ended at this marker on the AT.
