Located in Lakeview Park near the center of Nampa, Idaho, is the O.S.L. #616 2-8-0 Consolidation-2 Class steam engine locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1907.
Ordered originally by Union Pacific RR, this C-2 class locomotive was #1066 off of the BLW production line. It was put into service under the Union Pacific subsidiary Oregon Short Line Railroad; later, in 1915, the locomotive was renumbered #616 - finally #616 was leased back to Union Pacific RR in 1936.
In working order the locomotive and tender weighed 347,850 pounds. The tender carried 14 tons of coal and 7000 gallons of water. The steam engine was donated to the City of Nampa in 1958.
From walking the locomotive, access is restricted via a fence - I was able to find these as the only marks:
"O.S.L."
"616"
"X-616"
"C 57 22/30 191"
"Union Pacific"
The Engineers area is sealed up with particle board and wire so there is no way to see the Builders' Badge.
This is a great loco - come out and see it!
