The cannon was cast in 1864 by the Revere Copper Company, probably at the mill in Canton, MA. It is known as a 12 pounder Napoleon gun, as the shot weighed 12 pounds each. It is registered as gun #436, with a total weight of 1236 lbs. It was inspected and certified by Richard M. Hill, as evidenced by the initial R.M.H.
The cannon has been blackened over the years; the initial sheen would have been copper, which eventually would have turned green from oxidation.
