West Virginia State Penitentiary - Retired Prisons on Waymarking.com

This large jail is ominous and scary. Castle-like walls loom over a quiet residential neighborhood. No one would want to take up residence inside that place. But so many people did as prisoners. There are scheduled tours given regularly at the main "public" entrance on Jefferson Street. The prices are listed on a board on the fence. The staff was very friendly (no inmates to bother them anymore) but we opted out of the tour since we were not planning on it. Oddly, directly across from the prison is the ancient Moundsville Mound, built by the Adena tribe, BC! The mound and the historic marker are both waymarks as well, as will be the historic marker inside the fence (note that it is also jailed)of the jail.
