Early 19th Century Methodist revival meetings were held 300 yds. SE on the farm of Thomas Palmer, Jr. Later, David Campbell gave 1-1/4 acres to the Hiwassee Cumberland Presbyterian Campground and Church October 1, 1844. Troops bivouacked here during the Civil War. George Anderson, James County pioneer, is buried in the Campground Cemetery 75ft. NW.
