The engineer Thomas Telford built this bridge in 1826 as part of his commission to improve the condition on the Chester to Bangor Road. The bridge retains most of the original features; including the original chains and one of the original Telford style sunburst gates. The bridge was built in a mock castle-style to complement the castle. The bridge no longer carries traffic, but the bridge can be walked across for a small fee which is payable at the tollhouse (£1).
There are two ASCE plaques. As with all public notices in Wales there is a second plaque in the Welsh language. The plaques are not on the actual bridge, but are sited on the wall opposite the bridges' tollhouse.
On my visit on the 18/08/07 it was raining heavily, which meant I had the bridge all to myself.
