For just six short years Sims was the location of a bustling Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp. 1934-1939

With its wooded valley and beautiful river setting, Sims was a haven to the men from Company 987 who came from the busy cities of San Francisco, Oakland, and other Bay Area communities. Camp Sims, like other CCC camps, was administered and built by the U.S. Army. But it was the Forest Service who was in charge of the actual work projects.
Besides fire fighting, the men from Camp Sims gained a real reputation for building three fire lookouts-Sims, Bradley, and Sugerloaf, constructing part of the Everitt Memorial Highway, and building Panther Meadows campground, and Sims Bridge.
All that remains of Camp Sims today is the rock-lined staircase that led up to the commanding officer's house and his administrative building. Only faint traces of CCC rock-lined pathways are left in Sims campground today.
