The Westwall (also known as Siegfried-Linie) was a 630 km long line of defense in WWII. It went through the west of Germany from Kleve (at the border to the netherland) to Weil am Rhein (at the border to suisse).

It consists of 18000 bunkers, gallerys and anti-tank obstacles made out of concrete.

In March of 1945, an element of the 26th Infantry Division came down the ridge road leading from Rosenkopf. Since Lambsborn was a designated West Wall town and contained 35 bunkers, there was a temporary garrison ready to defend. An American tank was hit with a Panzerfaust at the ridge cross roads and a firefight ensued. The Germans suffered 3 KIA, but the town fell quickly because the Americans entered from an unexpected angle and the bunkers were of no help in the fight.
