A plaque in front of the bell reads:
"From 1862 to 1969 this bell hung in Court House/Town Hall until damaged by major fire (1969). Rededicated by Ellicottville Historical Society and Town Board for Village Sesquicentennial (1987)."

The bell sits outside the current Ellicottville Town & Village Hall.
