Enjoy the peaceful quiet of a Swiss village while staying at the Chalet Landhaus Inn. New Glarus was settled by 150 Swiss immigrants from Glarus, Switzerland in 1845. Museums and specialty shops are within walking distance. The Sugar River Trail comes right up to the door of this Inn. It is a 23.5 mile trail built on the old Milwaukee Road rail bed. The old rail line was once known as the Limburger Special, named after the cheese that was carried on the line. A few miles away is the only limburger cheese plant still operating in the United States. The Sugar River Trail ties in with the Ice Age Trail that travels through much of Wisconsin. The Inn features an Alpine restaurant serving Gourmet Swiss and American Cuisine.
