While in the area please take time to visit the nearby National D-Day Memorial. During World War II Company A, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division from Bedford were amoung the first wave to land on the beach at Normand. Nearly all of the "Bedford Boys" as they were known died in the first minutes of the invasion. As a result the Bedford area suffered the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation.
