The Hay Tor Granite tramway was opened around 1820 to transport cut Granite stone from the Quarries on and around Hay Tor and Holwell Tor to the Stover Canal at Ventiford. From here the Granite was shipped down the Stover Canal to Newton Abbot then shipped by River on high tide to Teignmouth and the sea. The Granite was shipped to London where it appears in many famous structures in the capital. For more information please visit the attached link. Today the tramway provides a beautiful and easy walk in and around Hay Tor. (visit link)
