Located at the corner of an intersection in Hawks Nest on Worimi Country, adjacent to a natural bush reserve and directly across the road from local shops, this Waymark features a plaque set atop a distinctive metal post. The post is adorned with painted flannel flowers, visually connecting to the theme of the engraved poem.

The plaque itself commemorates the beauty and tranquility of the Hawks Nest area through the poem 'Where the Flannel Flowers Bloom' by local poet Heather Prentice. The poem evokes vivid imagery of the region, referencing the Pacific Ocean, the Myall River, the spectacle of native blooms, and stunning sunsets over the waterways. It speaks to the peaceful awakening with the sounds of the ocean and dawn chorus, the easy living amongst dolphins and sailing boats, and even the unique "crooning of the Singing Bridge" during southerly winds. Ultimately, the poem expresses a contentment with the earthly paradise of Hawks Nest, where the wild flannel flowers bloom.

This waymark, with its artistic presentation of the poem, offers a moment of reflection on the natural beauty and local character that inspired these heartfelt verses.

Where the Flannel Flowers Bloom - by Heather Prentice

I've heard it called Paradise
And God's great waiting room,
This haven called Hawks Nest-
Where the flannel flowers bloom

Where the great Pacific Ocean
Sets its foam upon the shore,
\And the coursing Myall River
Rambles through its corridor.

You'll never see such a spectacle
As the native blooms unfold.
Or sunsets on the waterways-
Awash with molten gold.

Nor could your heart be heavy
When awakened in the morn,
To the murmur of the ocean
And the chorus of the dawn.

Ah! The living here is easy-
Mid the dolphins and the sails,
And the crooning of the Singing Bridge
When southerlies prevail.

But now to this comparison,
With God's great waiting room,
I'm quite content to stay and wait
Where the flannel flowers bloom.
