There are numerous Texas Historical Markers dotting Texas landscape either focusing on Jose Antonio Navarro or referencing Jose Antonio Navarro by name within the content of the markers. He was definitely a man with immense talent and knowledge of ranching and land management, but fortunately for Texas, he was a man wise enough to understand the political turmoil between Spain, Mexico, the United States, and the formation of the new Republic of Texas. His political beliefs lead him to defend Tejanos civil rights against prejudice from multiple groups who wanted to suppress and minimize their position in the new Republic of Texas. Navarro adapted to the times but stood up for the civil rights for those who had been living in Texas for generations before it formed its own Republic.
