Clarence A. "Toots" Munroe (1907-1930) was a star athlete from Attleboro, Massachusetts. He is remembered with a memorial gateway arch which leads to Community Field in North Attleborough Center. Made from smooth but not polished granite blocks about two feet thick, the arch is about 15 feet wide and tall. The east (front) side of the cross member is engraved:

Community Field
Dedicated to the
Youth of North Attleborough

Cast bronze plaques are embedded to the inside face of each pillar. The marker on the south post features a bas relief image of Munroe running with a football which fills the most of the space. Text below reads:

CLARENCE A. MUNROE
"TOOTS' MUNROE
1907 - 1930
HIS SUCCESSES ON THE ATHLETIC FIELD
HIS GOODFELLOWSHIP AND HIS MANLINESS
WERE AN INSPIRATION TO HIS ASSOCIATES

The marker on the north post reads:

TO THE END THAT HE MAY
BE HELD IN LOVING MEMORY
IN THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH
HE LIVED, THIS GATEWAY IS
ERECTED BY HIS PARENTS
JAMES A. MUNROE
MARTHA A. MUNROE
AND PRESENTED TO THE
TOWN OF NORTH ATTLEBORO
TO BE HELD IN PERPETUITY
FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD
A.D. 1931

ALIVE WE LOVED WHILE HE TROD THE EARTH
AND ROUND HIS MEMORY WE A CROWN HAVE PLACED
GOD KNEW THE SIGNAL HOUR, THE BETTER WAY
AND CALLED HIM HOME WHILE IT WAS DAY.

The town's website has a page dedicated to the memorial which shares: "North Attleborough's Community Field was funded by the community and was opened for the football season of 1924. The outstanding player for North Attleborough that year was Clarence A. "Toots" Munroe (1907 to 1930) who went on to star on the Brown University football team. "Toots" Munroe was gravely injured in a game against Yale in 1929 and died from a rare illness the following year. The Munroe Memorial Gateway was dedicated on November 26, 1931."
