The minor road connects the Market Place with Castlegate.

Borough Beck is a small stream that passes between the old castle of Helmsley and the market place before flowing into the larger river Rye a short distance to the south of this position.

These days much of the stream has been covered over, but at this point flows freely and crossed by this bridge.

The bridge is a Historic England Grade II Listed Building.
