When the North Amherst Congregational Church was sold to the Amherst Zion Church of the Nazarene the finial on top of the church was replaced by this large ichthys weather vane. An ichthys, commonly known as the "sign of the fish" or a "Jesus Fish", is and ancient Christian symbol.

The ichthys has a black body and tail the two intersecting arcs that form the fish shape is made of brass. A finial rises from the upper arc and below is a directional indicator, also in brass.
