Vuonna 1933 silloisen linja-autoaseman yhteyteen valmistunut, Totti Soran vaakahuoneeksi suunnittelema rakennus toimi yleisenä käymälänä vuoteen 1986 saakka. Markku Heikkilä ja Kaija Väisänen kunnostivat rakennuksen ravintolaksi, joka avautui vuonna 1997 nimellä Puutorin Vessa. Heikkilä toimi itse ravintoloitsijana vuoteen 2007 saakka. Ravintola meni konkurssiin huhtikuussa 2014, ja tiloihin tuli Tim Gloganin pitämä brittipubi The WaterLoo. Tammikuussa 2019 Tim Glogan lopetti The Waterloo pubin toiminnan ja nimi Puutorin Vessa otettiin jälleen ravintolan nimeksi. Pubin toiminnasta, Puutorin Vessa, vastaa 2019 alkaen Kenneth Forsström."

Puutorin Vessa taitaa olla ainoa pub Suomessa joka toimii entisessä vessarakennuksessa. Sen miesten vessassa oli aikoinaan humoristinen laite; kun kuseskeli laitteeseen se laski kusen määrän ja ilmoitti mitkä olivat olleet päivän parhaimmat kusijat.



[EN] "Puutorin Vessa (Toilet of Puutori market square) is a round building located in Turku's Puutori. Completed in 1933 in connection with the bus station at the time, the building designed by Totti Sora as a public toilet served as a public toilet until 1986. Markku Heikkilä and Kaija Väisänen renovated the building into a restaurant, which opened in 1997 under the name Puutorin Vessa. Heikkilä operated himself as a restaurateur until 2007. The restaurant went bankrupt in April 2014, and the premises were replaced by the British pub The WaterLoo run by Tim Glogan. In January 2019, Tim Glogan closed The Waterloo pub and the name Puutorin Vessa was taken back as the name of the restaurant. Puutorin Vessa seems to be the only pub in Finland that operates in a former toilet building. Its men's room once had a humorous device; when you pissed on the device, it counted the amount of piss and announced who had been the best pissers of the day.
