St. Stephen Catholic Church is located at 18858 Huron River Dr, New Boston, MI 48164. In front of the church along Huron River Dr. is a statue of the patron saint, Saint Stephen. The linked Wikipedia article states: "The Catholic, Anglican, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Lutheran and the Church of the East view Stephen as a saint. Artistic representations often show Stephen with a crown symbolising martyrdom, three stones, martyr's palm frond, censer, and often holding a miniature church building. Stephen is often shown as a young, beardless man with a tonsure, wearing a deacon's vestments." The statue in front of this church holds true to this description.

From St. Stephen:
"Saint Stephen was one of the first ordained deacons of the Church. He was also the first Christian martyr. The Greek word from which we derive the English word martyr literally means witness.
Of the seven original deacons ordained, Stephen was the oldest and given the title of "archdeacon," the chief among them. Like most of the early Christian leaders, he was Jewish, but may have come came from among the Greek speaking or Hellenistic believers, the ones feeling slighted in the distribution of alms."

St. Stephen was accused of blasphemy for his preachings about Jesus and brought before the Sanhedrin to stand trial similar to the fate of Jesus. During the trial the people grabbed St. Stephen and took him outside then stoned him to death circa 35 A.D.
