" Le clocher est daté officiellement du XIe siècle, à moins qu'il ne soit plus ancien encore. Ayant la particularité d'être bâti non sur l'église mais sur le surplomb rocheux qui la domine, il est certainement le plus ancien campanile de France.

L‘adroite superposition d'étages en retrait, la répartition des ouvertures, Ies pignons triangulaires (gâbles) qui coiffent les grandes baies en épaulant les façades, en font un modèle et un précurseur du genre roman limousin."

"The bell tower is officially dated from the 11th century, unless it is even older. Having the particularity of being built not on the church but on the rocky overhang which dominates it, it is certainly the oldest bell tower in France.

The skilful superposition of recessed floors, the distribution of openings, the triangular gables (gables) which cover the large bays by supporting the facades, make it a model and a precursor of the Limousin Romanesque genre."
