Sa fabrication remonte à l'an 1550.

Sa fabrication remonte à l'an 1588.

[EN] Near the old city hall, under the Place du Coderc, in the cellars of the former Consulate, two cannons weighing more than two tons each were discovered in 1979 by chance, during renovation works. Property of the City of Périgueux, the Thouin garden quickly welcomed these two bronze cannons, including a couleuvrine, as well as six iron cannonballs, movable objects from the 16th century classified as historical monuments since February 29, 1980.

The first cannon, called the Pompadour cannon (3.20 m long and 17 cm in diameter), has a large button breech. On the weapon is represented a shield in bas-relief, where are recognizable the three towers, symbols of the house of Pompadour. Its manufacture goes back to the year 1550.

The second, known as the "couleuvrine" (3.86 m long and 15 cm in diameter), has a breech with a pierced button and an ignition hole pierced in a guilloche square. On this weapon is represented a shield, a cross between two lilies and flames in low relief, where are recognizable the door of the city under a flag between two towers as well as a lily flower in chief, symbol of Périgueux. The words "PERIGUEUX" are inscribed on the barrel. Its manufacture goes back to the year 1588.
