A life-size white stone statue of Samuel Leonard Tilley stands on a circular stone base. Tilley is depicted wearing a long double breasted overcoat, a double breasted waistcoat, a high-collared shirt and a bow tie. He is standing with his right foot forward, his left hand is holding the lapel of his overcoat.

A plaque on the circular base is inscribed:

An oval plaque next to his statue contains his portrait from the National Archives of Canada and the following inscription:

Leonard Tilley of New Brunswick was a
single father of seven children who
somehow found time to teach Sunday
school as well as lead the legislature.
Tilley was interested in the commercial

Samuel Leonard Tilley, known as "Leonard", was born in Gagetown, NB in 1818. He first entered politics as an activist in the temperance movement and went on to become a leader in New Brunswick, federal cabinet minister, Lieutenant Governor, and Father of Confederation. In 1879, Tilly was knighted by Queen Victoria into the Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG). He later became a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB). He died on June 25, 1896 in Saint John.
