On one side of the road is the large municipal park called Golden Acre Park. On the other side is Breary Marsh, an area of wetland that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, both with public footpaths inside them.
The car park to Golden Acre Park is on the opposite side of the road and the footpath under the road provides safe access to the park avoiding the traffic on the very busy road.
